Fat Graft to the Face

Surgical Aesthetics

As we age, our faces not only sag but also lose volume. The fatty tissue under the skin, which gives our face its shape, diminishes with age and weight fluctuations. This results in sagging skin, wrinkles, and hollows. Fat grafting is a procedure that uses your own body fat to naturally and permanently fill these areas, eliminating the need for foreign substances (fillers).

How is fat grafting performed?

First, an examination is performed to identify areas where soft tissue (fat) volume is lacking. Fat is then harvested from areas such as the hips or abdomen. This is done through a small, half-centimeter incision using specialized cannulas. The harvested fat is centrifuged to separate the fat cells from the serum. The fat is then refined using special devices to create micro, nano, or other formats. This homogenizes the fat particle size, preventing contour irregularities in the treated area. Once the fat is prepared, it is injected into the areas where volume has been lost. This is done through tiny, approximately 1mm incisions using special cannulas. These small incisions can be closed with a stitch or simply taped.

Frequently
Asked Questions

How long do the results last?

The volume and shape achieved after two months are generally permanent. Of course, significant weight fluctuations can affect the volume of the grafted fat. However, for the first two months, graft survival is expected. For example, about 30% of the grafted fat survives while 70% is absorbed by the body. This graft survival rate varies from person to person and from area to area. Smoking and bleeding disorders can reduce graft survival rates. Similarly, grafting to areas with high movement, such as the cheeks, can also lower this rate.

What are the ideal areas for facial fat grafting?

Areas with no underlying muscle movement, such as the chin, cheekbones, and temples, have a higher graft survival rate.

Does fat grafting require multiple sessions?

Due to the approximately 30% graft survival rate, two or three sessions are generally recommended. In our clinic, we recommend a minimum of 4 months between sessions.

When will I see the final results?

The final results will be visible after 4-6 months.

What precautions should I take after the procedure?

Unlike other procedures, the success of this procedure depends on the patient following certain guidelines. These include avoiding smoking, exercise, facial movements, touching or massaging the treated area, and avoiding cold applications, especially in the first 24 hours.

When can I return to my normal activities?

Unlike other procedures, it is recommended to rest for the first 10 days.
